Before I post my poems I want to acknowledge, one of my Poetic heroes. Her spirit is with me today, Phyllis Wheatley. She is the first African American poet to be published in this country and the founder of ALL African American Literature. I have posted a tribute to her on my
Poetry Blog.

On Being Brought from Africa to America

'Twas mercy brought me from my Pagan land,
Taught my benighted soul to understand
That there's a God, that there's a Saviour too:
Once I redemption neither sought nor knew.
Some view our sable race with scornful eye,
"Their colour is a diabolic die."
Remember, Christians, Negro's, black as Cain,
May be refin'd, and join th' angelic train.

She was Bad! (in the 1700's!) The "diabolic die" it is amazing that they referred to all colour as dye back in those days. She could have wrote that yesterday.

Well, I have a Few poems I want you to read from my Sonnets in Soul Collection. I hope you like them. I hope to write a second book of poems all of them sonnets like these. Dont get me started with Shakespeare! LOL

The Journey of, The Diasporian Souls

The seeds of Sub-Saharan descendants
Globe heavy in weight, their percentage, great
Continent African, population ascendant
Sewn, seeds are strewn. God’s hand he blast. He spate.

Spreading their origins, across his globe
Sending those, the Diasporian souls
Spirits of migration, are children of, Job
Ship’s belly they rode. Cargo list: Black Gold

Middle passing, through our growth transition
Ancestors wailing, they pray, in all tongues
Those in search of their God’s, acquisition
Pass amazement on to those next. The young.

They hold their heads up, as they walk or stroll

In My Dream, I Was a Graceful Angel

In my dream, I was a graceful Angel
Whispering words, that flutter, halt offense
Members of their branch, stunt growth, they strangle
Immense debates fallen, hence, are past tense

In my dream, I was a wrathful Angel
Unwelcomed visitor of my high school
Vocalized, blasting air, ears all mangled
Papers flew, wind blew , Avenge the un-cool!

In my dream, I was a stunning Angel
My wings path, all things disintegrated
Roofs gave, walls cowered in awe, they angle
Winged creature, pure, their race I integrate

Over mountainous views and seas, I dangle
In my dream, I was a Graceful Angel


Honey For Trey

Honey served hot, for the longtime duet
Is the sweetness found, familiar in its surrounds
Descriptions of its depths, make sheets drip sweat
Flowered beauty of love crowned, how profound

Honey served overheated, in solitary
Too long to show up home, meeting postponed
Disappointed, emotions boiling, eyes bleary
Lonely became the man, whose touch condoned

Honey served blistering, so esoteric
Private matters, covert it’s cloak-and-dagger
Undercover agent, crafty lovemaking cleric
Shaman of passion spirits, make legs stagger

Served in betray, brings dismay
Risky is the dish, Honey for Trey


The Bonita Negro

Auburn hues sway. Autumn’s brilliant morning.
Walking, air slipping my face brisk kisses
Park filled with smiles, hellos and good mornings
Duck’s pool, crystal. Shades, the sun dismisses.

Pavement winds the scene, staging theatre
They sit, the contrast Latinas in grow
Aged, she teaches the tender, speak neater
Shows with finger, “The Bonita Negro.”

Aghast. Scream, in my cranium prison.
Grins are my armor, primping my afro
Tension speaking of a color, risen
High unbelief, “The Bonita Negro?”

Not the slang cousin, we have come to know.
O, Yes! “The Muy Bonita Negro!”


Brown Girl

Hey Little brown girl, how’s the weather today?
When the rain comes, you can hide your tears
When the sun shines, angels listened as you prayed
They told him all he hears, they gave him all your fears

Hey you! Brown girl, who grew up so strong
Made your own path, walked away from those untrue
Don’t look back, eyes ahead, you get there before long
And when you took off, chile’ they said you flew!

Hey there! Brown Lady, heard you got a good man
Nice family too, someone up there looking out for you!
Cause you got a good heart and its all in his plan
I talked to an angel who told me to tell you. She loves you!

Hey Brown Lady, you are truly out of this world!
I will always remember when you were just, a Brown Girl
